Meal Prep; Why?

In pursuing a healthier lifestyle a decade ago, Tim and I were gifted the suggestion of a game-changer – meal prepping and have never looked back. Initially motivated by weight loss, our journey with meal prep evolved into a multi-faceted approach that goes beyond just shedding pounds. Now, we meal prep to maintain weight, ensure proper nutrition, save money and RV kitchen storage space (bonus), and embrace the numerous benefits it brings to our overall well-being.

Meal prepping has become a cornerstone of our routine, providing control over the ingredients and volume of food we eat, eliminating the chaos of impromptu meals. It's a holistic practice that extends far beyond weight management. Let's delve into the myriad reasons why meal prep matters to us.

Firstly, meal prepping allows us to tailor our diet for longevity, emphasizing protein, nutrient-dense foods, removing highly processed foods, and excessive fats and carbohydrates. When we deviate from this routine and succumb to the allure of ultra-processed treats and dining out too frequently, our bodies feel the repercussions – hunger, cravings, bloating, sore joints, constipation, and unwelcome gas. Meal prep is a buffer against these pitfalls, fostering a balanced and nourishing diet.

One common objection to meal prepping is the perceived difficulty. However, it's akin to preparing a meal for ourselves and guests, with the foresight to save portions for the coming days. The act of saving time, money, reduce stoage space need in our tiny RV kitchen, and ensuring nutritional balance outweighs any initial challenges.

Another objection arises from the notion of monotony – the fear of eating the same thing every day. Yet, upon closer inspection, many individuals unknowingly consume the same breakfast cereal, muffin, chips, or candy snack routinely. Is it the repetition or the perceived lack of variety in healthy foods that deters us? The truth is, the transition from unhealthy to healthy becomes a flavor revelation over time.

The misconception that healthy foods are inherently bland is debunked when we shift our perspective. While a piece of fruit might seem dull compared to a cookie, it transforms into a delicious sweet treat when ultra-processed foods are eliminated from our diet. Similarly, breakfast staples like eggs and meat may appear unappetizing initially, especially if one has indulged in junk food the night before. However, a protein-rich breakfast becomes a satisfying and flavorful start to the day, effectively curbing cravings.

Meal prepping has been a journey of redefining our relationship with food. It's not about deprivation or restriction; it's about making choices that nourish . By investing time in preparing wholesome meals, we break free from the shackles of daily cooking and cleaning, reduce the cost of excess and unnecessary food, eliminate waste, and reduce the storage space needed by purchasing and preparing only the food we need for the coming week. The perceived boringness of whole foods fades away, replaced by a newfound appreciation for the flavors and benefits they offer.
