Ensuring that cabinets and drawers are latched, appliances secured, and windows are closed prevents damage to the RV's interior and enhances safety by minimizing the risk of items shifting or falling while in motion. Additionally, verifying shower, refrigerator, and cupboard doors are secured prevents shattered glass, damaged flooring, huge messes, and the likelihood of incidents. Making sure appliances are unplugged and lights, HVAC, and water heater is off helps reduce drain on house batteries.
Outdoor Preparations: Protecting Against External Hazards
Moving outside, the checklist shifts focus to the external components of the RV, including water, sewage hoses, slides, awnings, and power supply. Properly stowing hoses, connectors, water filters, surge protectors, and power cords prevent leaving an item behind and damage, if not disconnected, before departure.
An external inspection and confirming the closure of vents, windows, and storage bays not only safeguards against water or dust intrusion and pest infestation but also prevents loss or damage to equipment, the RV, personal belongings, and campground utility pedestals. Furthermore, ensuring that jacks are raised, slides and awnings are retracted and stowed, and secure towing connections minimize the risk of accidents and mechanical failures during transit.
