Want It to Feel Bigger? - Your RV

In the words of the wise Genie in Aladdin, "it's an itty-bitty living space."

RV between the road lines
Good Times RVing

Want all the allure of RV living? Spoiler alert: it's more pleasurable than you might think, but not in the way your mind might be wandering—let's keep it between the lanes, 😉.

Living in a motorhome is thrilling, but let's face it, it can feel confining at times. That openness of the coach you felt when you initially entered and chose your perfect match can diminish. And your relationship with this tiny, intimate space during long bouts of bad weather can also become suffocating.

Inside Scoop

Here's the inside scoop on getting back those early larger than life loving feelings in your rolling sanctuary. I've uncovered a simple, effective relationship strategy that expands your RV's spaciousness —I call it the Five-Minute Rule (5MR), creating more time to enjoy the solace. Trust me; it's not your average routine. It's spontaneous and works like a charm to keep your mobile haven zen.

The Five-Minute Rule: A Dash of Spontaneity

So, what's this rule all about? Picture this: any task that can be done in two to five minutes or less gets tackled immediately. It's a game-changer. Embrace it consistently, and watch the clutter demons retreat faster than a cat from a bath.

Cup of Water in Microwave
T Minus 3:00 Minutes

I found my secret by accidentally timing tasks while waiting for the microwave. A cup of water to warm in the microwave for three minutes, and boom, dishes were done before the timer chimed. ✅ Reheating my meal-prepped dinner for five minutes, voilà, laundry folded before the ding. ✅ Double check. ✅✅ The magic lies in staggering these quick tasks and compiling productivity all without being overwhelmed; after all, we are retired and/or on vacation.

The Nerd Alert ⚠️: Time-Saving Adventures

Being a bit of a nerd (and proud of it), I dove into timing tasks around the motorhome. It turns out that consistent five-minute efforts make a world of difference, making our cozy abode feel as vast as the open road. I curated a list of these time-friendly tasks because, let's face it, a clean and clutter-free RV is a satisfying RV.

The List: 5RM Tasks for a Bigger Feel

Ready for the reveal? Here's a list of things that take almost no time (less than five minutes) to complete and keep the rig feeling spacious:

Made Bed
Make Your Bed Daily

- Make morning bed-making a ritual

- Stow hats, coats, and shoes promptly upon entry

- Wash dishes and wipe counters post-meal

- Sweep/Vacuum floor after at least one meal per day

- Put away dry, clean dishes

- Migrate dirty laundry to the basket

- Deliver clean laundry to it's space

- Employ a change jar for pocket treasures

- Wipe down the toilet daily with a sanitizer swipe while waiting for the shower to warm

Key Basket
Key Corral

- Corral the keys to the kingdom in a central basket

- Put away toiletries after each use

- Tuck remote controls away in a drawer

- Fold lap blankets post-use

- Enjoy Kindle-friendly reading materials or put all others in their designated places

- Tackle loose papers and banish junk mail

- Break down delivery boxes (store, if necessary) pronto

- Apply the "One in, One out" rule when bringing in the clothes and treasures
